6.1-magnitude earthquake hits eastern Indonesia

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 occurred Thursday, June 3 in eastern Indonesia, off the Maluku archipelago, but no tsunami warning was issued, according to the Institute American Geophysics (USGS).

The powerful earthquake occurred at a relatively shallow depth of 31 kilometers, about 127 km southwest of the town of Ternate. No casualties were initially reported, nor any significant damage.
