French maritime services intercepted several boats carrying illegal migrants who were trying to cross the Pas-de-Calais to enter the UK. As the prefecture of the English Channel and the North Sea zone said on Friday, a total of 80 people were rescued, Trend reports citing TASS.
“The Regional Monitoring and Rescue Operations Center (CROSS) at Cape Gris-Nee has reported several boats with migrants in distress in the waters of the Pas-de-Calais,” the statement said.
Rescuers found 42 migrants on two boats, authorities said. They were taken ashore to the port of Boulogne-sur-Mer, where they were examined by doctors. After that, rescuers removed another 38 illegal immigrants from another boat and transported them to the port of Calais.
