Striker Ansu Fati scored Barcelona’s third goal against Levante on Sunday after eleven months without playing due to a meniscus injury in his left knee. The 18-year-old hugged the entire medical team before entering the field with a big smile.
At the Camp Nou, after 322 days away from the pitch and four operations, Ansu Fati took the field to much applause in the 81st minute, wearing the number 10 shirt that was worn by Lionel Messi.
Just nine minutes after replacing the Dutchman Luuk de Jong, the forward received the ball almost in midfield, dribbled an opponent and kicked with quality from outside the area to close the score. During the celebration, he went to the bench to dedicate the goal to the doctors.
“I didn’t imagine a return like this, but we have a long way to go. I want to thank the doctors and physiotherapists, and all the fans. It’s incredible”, declared the shirt 10.
“I remembered my family, who suffered these months. I will try to contribute in the best way, I will try to be available and work to help”, he added.
With this victory, Barcelona is 5th with 12 points, five behind leaders Real Madrid, who on Saturday was in a goalless draw at home to Villarreal (11th). Levante is in 17th.
