The first city in the country to lockdown after the worsening of the pandemic, in February, Araraquara (273 km from São Paulo) registered a 117% increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in the week following the September 7 holiday.
Between September 6 and 12, the city registered 113 cases of the disease. The following week, between the 13th and the 19th, the municipality’s Secretary of Health computed 246 new infections.
Even with the increase, the daily moving average is 40 cases, 78% lower than the 189 registered in February, a month considered the peak of the pandemic in the city.
“I think this is the trend. It will keep contamination low, with very low admissions and deaths”, said Mayor Edinho Silva (PT) to the Panel.
