Acting Prime Minister Michael McCormack says Australia needs to see increased vaccination rates so a travel bubble with Singapore will be possible.
He said Prime Minister Scott Morrison has had “productive talks” with officials in Singapore but Australians need to “get out and get their jab” so the plan can be made a reality.
“We will continue to, of course, make sure that the vaccination strategy is rolled out across the country … and we’ll continue to work on a collaborative and cooperative association with Singaporean officials to make this happen,” Mr McCormack said.
He said the New Zealand travel bubble had also depended on Australia’s COVID-19 strategy.
“We’ve got that travel bubble with New Zealand and of course at one stage it was one-way – and now it’s two-way – and that’s because we’ve had low case rates, that’s because we’ve had a low death toll.”
