Bárbara Domingos makes history at the GR Worlds

Brazilian Bárbara Domingos achieved an unprecedented result. This Thursday, she became the first gymnast in the country to qualify for an individual final of a World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships. In Kitakyushu, Japan, the athlete scored 69,800 on the four apparatus, 13th note among the 18 finalists in the all-around.

After finishing the first day in 11th position, having scored 23,550 on the bow and 23,750 on the ball, Barbara gave a real show on the tape and added 20,500 with her well-known and vibrant choreography to the sound of samba. Later, on the apples, the Brazilian confirmed her excellent moment with 22,500.

This is the best result of a competitor in the Americas in Kitakyushu. The second highest sum of a representative of the continent belongs to Evita Griskenas, from the United States, who won 63,000.

“I am feeling very happy. The importance of this result has not yet fallen. It’s all very new, but I’m sure this is the result of our very intense work. Not only mine, but a whole technical team behind me. Without them, I would certainly not be at the level I am today”, said Barbara.

Ana Luisa Neiva, who debuted at the Worlds, played a good role when she classified in 35th place, with 20,900 on the bow, 22,150 on the ball, 17,850 on the clubs and 17,200 on the ribbon, totaling 60,900.

The best previous result of Brazil in the current competition format had been obtained by Barbara herself, at the 2019 Worlds, in Baku, when she reached the 31st position.

In the entire history of the competition, the most advanced place obtained by a Brazilian belongs to Inês Oliveira, at the 1975 World Cup, in Madrid. In a different scoring system, with a maximum score of 10, she added 33,300, and achieved an excellent 16th position in the all-around. The gymnasts presented themselves only once for the all-around competition, with the notes already valid for the final classification.
