President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) has been advised not to be in a hurry to choose the new ministers of the Superior Court of Justice (STJ).
Planalto’s favorite was judge Aluisio Gonçalves, from the Federal Regional Court of the 2nd Region (TRF-2), but his name was vetoed by ministers from Rio de Janeiro, and he did not make the list. Gonçalves was also the favorite of the president of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Luiz Fux.
On Wednesday (11), the ministers of the STJ chose four names that will be sent to Bolsonaro for the appointment of two court ministers, who will still have to be discussed by the Senate. They are: Messod Azulay, Ney Bello Filho, Paulo Sérgio Domingues and Fernando Quadros da Silva.
All the nominees have legal sponsors, and the president wants to avoid alienating himself.
The dispute to integrate this list was considered one of the fiercest in recent years, with a strong performance by the ministers of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) in favor of their favorite candidates.
The vacancies, whose seats have been vacant for more than a year, are intended for judges of the TRFs (Regional Federal Courts) and were opened after the retirement of ministers Napoleão Nunes Maia Filho and Nefi Cordeiro.
