The European Union takes note of reports of alleged serious violations during the elections to the State Duma held in Russia. This is stated in the statement of the head of EU diplomacy Joseph Borrelldistributed on Monday in Brussels.
“The European Union regrets that Russia’s decision to severely limit the size and format of the OSCE’s international election observation mission prevented its deployment. The EU takes note of reports from independent and reliable sources about serious violations,” he argued. According to him, “The Russian Federation must fulfill the commitments that it has assumed within the framework of the UN, OSCE and the Council of Europe in the field of protecting human rights and democratic values.”
