After defending the Olympic team in friendlies against Cape Verde and Serbia, Liziero is back in São Paulo. The defensive midfielder, if tested negative for covid-19 after traveling to Europe, should be the main reinforcement of the team commanded by Hernán Crespo for Sunday’s difficult match, against Atlético-MG, at Mineirão.
All-time holder since recovering from an ankle injury, Liziero is experiencing one of the best moments of his career. With the expectation of competing in the Tokyo Olympic Games, the player is rivaling Rodrigo Nestor for the spot as the second defensive midfielder of the São Paulo team.
As Luan will most likely not be able to play on Sunday, as he is still recovering from a swelling in his left thigh, Crespo could call on Liziero and Nestor in midfield if he believes there is no need for a more defensive formation to hold the Atlético-MG in Belo Horizonte.
Liziero and Nestor played together for the São Paulo professional in just one opportunity, in the defeat to Botafogo-SP, in the 2020 Paulistão, when the team entered the field with a completely reserve formation.
In the current season, the two players replaced each other four times, playing together for just 20 minutes, precisely in the final of the Campeonato Paulista, against Palmeiras, in Morumbi.
