China and Russia must stabilize supply chains and resist hegemony – Chinese Foreign Ministry

China and the Russian Federation should work together to promote the formation of stable international supply chains and jointly counteract the hegemony of individual powers. This is stated in a statement published on Saturday on the website of the Chinese Foreign Ministry following the meeting of the head of the Chinese Foreign Ministry. Wang Yi with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov in Phnom Penh.

“In the current situation, China and Russia should work together to promote regional development,” Wang Yi said. “We need to build stable and reliable industry supply chains in the region, <…> fight together against the false orders that the hegemons establish.

As the Chinese Foreign Minister specified, Beijing will increase the scale of cooperation with Moscow in such areas as countering epidemics, healthcare, communications, the digital economy, and the introduction of environmentally friendly low-carbon technologies. He noted that China and the Russian Federation should contribute to linking the projects of the One Belt, One Road initiative and the Eurasian Economic Union, and strengthen relations in accordance with the tasks of the Greater Eurasian Partnership.

The Chinese diplomat added that China and Russia should “lead the regional process to ensure genuine security.” “It is necessary to jointly promote the strengthening of cohesion and prosperity in Eurasia, purposefully protect [существующие] principles of forming international relations, strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation, directing global development in the right direction,” concluded Wang Yi.
