China’s Uyghur press conference part of ‘wider propaganda offensive’

China’s bizarre and chilling press conference in Canberra attempting to downplay concerns of genocide against Uyghurs was part of a “wider propaganda offensive” against western media, according to the ANU’s Michael Clarke.

The Chinese Embassy in Canberra held a press conference on Wednesday in which it play multiple propaganda films aimed at portraying Xinjiang province as peaceful despite widespread reports of atrocities against the Uyghur population.

Mr Clark told Sky News the press conference was an “interesting spectacle” on multiple levels, and was definitely part of Beijing’s ongoing “disinformation or propaganda offensive.”
