As of this Friday (16th), another 2.3 million medicines from the intubation kit will be distributed by the Ministry of Health. The supplies were purchased in China and donated to the federal government by companies such as Petrobras, Vale, Engie, Itaú Unibanco , Klabin and Raízen.
“With this donation, we were able to guarantee, according to the data sent, at least 10 days of supply in relation to the neuromuscular blocker, analgesia and sedation by midazolam, and 15 days with propofol. The state is responsible, together with the municipalities, to make the redistribution in its own assistance network ”, emphasized the secretary of Science, Technology and Strategic Inputs (SCTIE), Hélio Angotti Neto.
Teams from the Ministry of Health are ready to start distributing the so-called intubation kit. “Based on previous experiences, the expectation is that in less than 48 hours the medicines will be distributed to all states”, said the executive secretary of the Ministry of Health, Rodrigo Cruz.
SUS hospitals are the first on the list to receive the kits. They define the average monthly consumption and their stocks to the states – essential information to guide, at the end, the criteria for dividing the batches of medicines among the federal entities.
According to the Ministry of Health, the data are presented in tripartite meetings, which take place three times a week, involving representatives of the state and municipal health secretaries – National Council of Health Secretaries (Conass) and National Council of Municipal Health Secretaries (Conasems ) and the Ministry of Health. The portfolio also has the collaboration of the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa), which monitors the national production of medicines.
“From there, we outlined strategies for the acquisition and distribution of these drugs, in order to regularize national distribution. In the next moment, the Ministry executes the strategies, making national or international acquisitions and proposing a distribution agenda to the states, which is approved by Conass and Conasems ”, explained Cruz.
Since the beginning of the covid-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Health has sent more than 8.6 million intubation drugs to states and municipalities. In addition, it operates in the acquisition of hospital medicines by other means: there are two open auctions and a direct purchase is in progress via the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).
According to the Minister of Health, Marcelo Queiroga, the action will reinforce assistance to the Unified Health System (SUS) and patient care across the country. “The obligation to purchase these drugs is from states and municipalities. However, we are in an international public emergency and we have to take the necessary steps to ensure supply throughout the country, especially in smaller municipalities that are unable to purchase, ”he said.
