Covid NSW: Two deaths, 176 new cases

Two people have died from Covid-19 in NSW while 176 new cases have been recorded as the state’s vaccination rate climbs higher.

NSW has recorded 176 new cases of Covid-19 and two deaths, an unvaccinated woman and a fully-inoculated elderly man.

The cases emerged in the 24 hours to 8pm on Saturday.

The woman from western Sydney was aged her 40s and died at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, while the south western Sydney man was aged in his 80s and died at Liverpool Hospital.

There are currently 192 cases in hospital, with 32 people in intensive care, 15 of whom require ventilation.

Victoria recorded 1275 new local cases and four deaths overnight.

Across the state, 94.4 per cent of people aged 16 and over have received a first dose of a vaccine while 91.8 per cent are fully vaccinated.

The total number of cases in NSW since the beginning of the pandemic is 79,632 after one case was excluded following further investigation.
