Fir was born on June 20, 1956 in Ohio. He was one of the first members of The Lounge Lizards and The Feelies, with whom he worked on their debut album, collaborated with The Lodge – with John Greaves, with his legendary Cleveland countrymen Pere Ubu, with the iconic New York punks Richard Hell and the Voidoids, further founding The Golden Palominos.
Fir actively collaborated with such a block as Bill Laswell, toured and recorded with Hüsker Dü guitarist, vocalist and songwriter Bob Mold, played with Jack Bruce and Japanese guitarist Kenji Suzuki, worked on John Zorn’s Locus Solus album, played on Laurie Anderson’s Mister Heartbreak , worked with Herbie Hancock, Yoko Ono, Mick Jagger, Los Lobos and so on, plus recorded solo.
