Ethiopian athlete Letesenbet Gidei set a new world record in the 10,000 m race at a tournament in the Netherlands, Trend reports with reference to TASS.
The 23-year-old athlete covered the distance in 29 minutes 1.3 seconds, surpassing the achievement of the Dutch Sifan Hassan, set on June 5.
“I was hoping to set a world record, – said Gidei. – Of course, next time I will try to break my record and run out of 29 minutes.”
Gidei is 23 years old, she is the silver medalist of the World Championship. Also, the Ethiopian athlete has five gold medals and one silver at the World Cross Country Championships.
