“The Federal Security Service, together with the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, with the support of the Russian Guard, suppressed the illegal activities of an organized criminal group specializing in the illegal production and sale of unmarked tobacco products on an especially large scale,” the FSB said. The secret service noted that two lines for the production of tobacco products and two large warehouses were found on the territory of the Pereslavsky district of the Yaroslavl region. “More than 133 thousand packs of cigarettes, tobacco weighing over 14 tons, as well as financial documentation confirming shadow economic activity were seized. The facts of the sale of unmarked tobacco products from May 2020 to July 2021 worth over 100 million rubles have been established,” FSB.

The criminal activity was carried out by an organized group formed according to the ethnic principle with the involvement of migrants from the countries of Central Asia. As reported to TASS in the press service of the UK, counterfeit cigarettes were sold on the territory of the Moscow region, which “created a real threat to the health of citizens.”

The Investigative Committee clarified that a total of six people were detained, and a criminal case was opened against them under Part 6 of Art. 171.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (production, acquisition, storage, transportation or sale of products without labeling) and Part 2 of Art. 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (production, storage, transportation or sale of goods and products, performance of work or provision of services that do not meet safety requirements). All of them were charged and taken as a preventive measure in the form of house arrest. “During the preliminary investigation, more than 50 people were interrogated, forensic examinations were appointed,” the Investigative Committee said.
