Manufacturers of so-called early treatment drugs have come under the Covid CPI. On Wednesday (8), senator Humberto Costa (PT-PE) filed a request for more than 20 companies to pass on information about the sale of Covid kit products.
Aché, Abbott, Eurofarma, Prati Donaduzzi and Teuto are among those mentioned, besides the one that already appears in another application made on Tuesday (7) by senator Alessandro Vieira (Cidadania-SE), with names like EMS, Sanofi and Cristália.
In the new order, Humberto Costa requests reports on other products besides chloroquine, hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin. The requested data now covers nitazoxanide, azithromycin, doxycycline, zinc food supplement, vitamin C and vitamin D.
He wants details of sales made from 2015 to 2020 to federal, state and local governments, with information on quantity, price, profit margin and advertising expenses.
According to Costa, the acquisition, distribution or induction to the use of drugs for treatment without proven efficacy and safety against Covid is one of the research axes of the CPI, and “reveals inadequate investment of public resources in health measures lacking scientific support”.
“Disclosure of these drugs imbues people with the false belief that there is drug prevention, treatment and cure for Covid-19, accentuating the negligence with scientifically recommended measures of detachment and social isolation and the use of masks”, justifies the senator.
The president of Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency), Antonio Barra Torres, who has already testified to the CPI, should also have to disclose information about the sale of medicines in the last five years.
