It has become the emblematic place of Bogota for the social movement that has shaken the country for more than a month: the Portal de las Americas, renamed “Portal de la Resistencia”. A reference to the Chilean social movement, which had renamed the Italia de Santiago square in the same way in November 2019. We are in the great suburbs of the Colombian capital, in a popular district. “We have been running this place for over 37 days. I represent the families and the resistance of Suba (suburb of Bogota, editor’s note). Long live the national strike! The drug traffickers in power are afraid of us! ”, harangue Elisa at the podium. She is a frail young girl of barely 20 years old, her head and face completely covered with a black scarf and her eyes hidden by ski goggles. She is part of the “First line”, these young people who organized themselves to try to supervise the demonstrations and protect the participants from the police. For the latter, it is thugs.
