In the Sverdlovsk region, more than 960 houses were left without gas after a fire on a gas pipeline in the city of Kachkanar. This is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the department of information policy of the region.

According to the regional Ministry of Emergency Situations, at 18.00 local time, the emergency services received information about a gas pipeline rupture in a section located seven kilometers from the city of Kachkanar. As a result of the emergency, about 140 apartment buildings in the city were left without gas. The boiler house, which supplies the city, switched to fuel oil, and there is heat in the apartment buildings. However, 10.5 thousand apartments remain without gas for cooking. In the private sector, 961 houses fell under the shutdown.

The gas pipeline fire was extinguished at 18.50. Repair work on the damaged area is scheduled to be completed by morning. The gas will be launched at 15.00 local time on February 22. On behalf of the head of the region, Evgeny Kuyvashev, the administration is working on supplying the population with firewood and heaters. Several heating points have been deployed to accommodate residents.

According to weather forecasters, on Sunday in the region was from 19 to 24 degrees below zero. In the north of the region, the thermometer dropped to minus 33 degrees. At night, temperatures are expected to drop to minus 44 degrees. Earlier, the Ministry of Emergency Situations warned residents about the abnormal frost expected from February 20 to 25. The average daily temperature will be 7 degrees below the climatic norm.
