In the new attacks, at least 3 people were killed in Jalalabad, the capital of Nangarhar province, east of the country, on Sunday, in an attack launched by ISIS elements against the Taliban. The local “Salam and Tandar” radio reported that two explosions occurred near the city’s police station, after which an exchange of fire began between the movement’s members and ISIS militants.
In addition, local media quoted state officials as saying that two civilians out of the three were killed in the two explosions.
A local source said that the explosions occurred around nine o’clock this morning.
He also added that the explosions were caused by an explosive device, but it was not clear who the target was, while official sources in the Taliban did not give any details yet.
chain of attacks
It is noteworthy that the movement was forced to deal with a series of attacks claimed by a group linked to ISIS, with which it has differed for years due to a number of economic and ideological issues.
ISIS (Khorasan Province), the organization’s branch in the region, claimed responsibility for a number of bombings in the city of Jalalabad at the beginning of the week.
That group also claimed responsibility for carrying out an attack on Kabul airport last August that killed dozens of Afghan civilians who had gathered outside the airport gates, in addition to 13 US soldiers.
US intelligence officials warned on September 14 that al-Qaeda could organize inside Afghanistan within one to two years, noting that some members of the terrorist group had already returned to the country, according to the American newspaper, “The New York Times”.
