One of the highlights of Corinthians on victory over America-MG, on Sunday, it was defender João Victor. Safe and high up, the 22-year-old performed well in the first test under Sylvinho. With the good performance, the defender should gain another chance against Atlético-GO, on Wednesday, for the Copa do Brasil.
In his first two matches as coach of Corinthians, Sylvinho opted for a double back with Gil and Raul Gustavo. It turns out that the two were criticized for their performances in the defeats by 1-0 and 2-0 to Atlético-GO, both at Neo Química Arena.
Raul was released from the match against América-MG due to a particular problem. With that, João Victor got the vacancy in the starting lineup and corresponded. According to the Footstats, the defender was the third player of Timon with more right passes and hits, with 31 and six actions, respectively. The player, who was on the field for 90 minutes, also did not commit fouls.
In the current season, João Victor participated in 12 Corinthians games, eleven as a starter. In all, there were nine victories, two defeats and a draw, taking advantage of 77.7% of the disputed points. While the defender was on the field, Timão conceded only eight goals.
After the triumph over América-MG, coach Sylvinho praised the young defender. The coach, however, did not guarantee him as an absolute holder and valued the other players in the position.
“João Victor is a great player and, in fact, like so many others, he had a very good performance, of delivery, of fighting, which is what we are demanding, looking for. Everyone is very useful, important players and everyone will be used in your time,” he said at a press conference.

In 2020, João Victor competed in the Brazilian Championship for Atlético-GO. Curiously, the shirt 33 will face the former club this Wednesday, at 9:30 pm (Brasilia time), for the return game of the third phase of the Copa do Brasil, against Antônio Accioly. As they lost the first leg 2-0, Alvinegro needs to triumph by three goals to advance or by two to take the match to penalties.
