Koeman says Coutinho can win minutes against Bayern and comments on rematch atmosphere

O Barcelona will make its debut in Champions League, this Tuesday, against the Bayern Munchen, at Camp Nou. In a press conference, Ronald Koeman, coach of the Spanish club, said that Philippe Coutinho should win minutes on the field.

“He’s been out for a long time, but he’s getting better every day and what he needs now is a few minutes,” said the Dutchman.

This year, the Brazilian had to undergo a series of surgeries. The last match he played was on December 29, 2020, in a tie with Eibar, for the Spanish Championship. In the current season, Coutinho hasn’t debuted yet, but he was listed in Barça’s last game, against or Getafe.

Another player who could make his debut against Bayern is striker Luuk de Jong. The Barça coach stated that the newly hired athlete “is physically well”.

Revenge climate

This will be the first time the two teams will meet after the historic 8-2 rout by the Germans over the Spaniards, for the quarterfinals of the 2019/20 edition of Champions.

Koeman, who was not yet the coach of the culés in the game in questionO, said that Barcelona players who were in that match suffered, and that this will be an opportunity to pay back.

“There are several players who suffered a lot that night. It should be seen as an opportunity to change that. And for the others, it’s an opportunity to harm Bayern. We can do it, it’s a matter of looking for the formula”, he said.

“If we lose the ball in the spaces behind, they can cause us a lot of damage, because they are a very fast team up front. It’s important to have the ball and start well back, it’s key to getting a good result tomorrow (13),” he added.

Finally, the Dutchman did not rule out the fight for the title.

“If we can win? It is something that cannot be answered. Against Bayern we can draw conclusions, they are an opponent that aspires to the maximum and we are changing things. Chelsea won last year and were not among the favourites.”
