Lewandowski remains Poland’s official penalty taker, says coach

Striker Robert Lewandowski will remain Poland’s official penalty taker. The announcement was made this Friday by coach Czeslaw Michniewicz, when asked about the missed kick in the draw with Mexico in the World Cup in Qatar.

“Robert is our number one striker. He will be the one who will decide whether he wants to take the penalty or leave it to someone else. He feels prepared to score for Poland”, said the coach at a press conference, the day before the game against surprising Saudi Arabia , who beat Lionel Messi’s Argentina 2-1 three days ago.

Against Mexico, Lewandowski had his penalty saved by goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa, who, aged 37, is playing in his fifth World Cup.

The Barcelona striker remains without scoring for Poland in a World Cup. He played in all three group matches of 2018 in Russia and one so far in Qatar.

For the game against Saudi Arabia, at 4 pm (Brasília time) this Saturday, at Estádio Cidade da Educação, the Polish coach has 26 players and predicts a tactic identical to the one that allowed the Saudis to beat Argentina.

“They play very high on the field, it was very intense. We know they will put pressure on us,” said Michniewicz.
