More than 1 million residents of the European Union have already received digital COVID certificates since their issuance from June 1 in a number of EU countries in test mode. This was announced on Tuesday, June 8, at a meeting of the plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, European Commissioner for Legal Affairs Didier Reinders.
He recalled that the system will officially start working on July 1.
“On June 1, the European Commission launched the EU portal, which will provide an opportunity to verify the authenticity of certificates. Several member countries have already started issuing it. More than 1 million residents have already received such a certificate. Others will receive it in the coming weeks and months, ”he said.
At the same time, the European Commission is in contact with third countries to discuss the compatibility of their systems with the European digital certificate system.
Earlier, on June 4, Izvestia was told in the European Council that EU member states have the right to use digital COVID certificates before their official entry into force.
It was reported that from June 1, seven states began to issue COVID certificates – Bulgaria, Germany, Greece, Denmark, Poland, Croatia and the Czech Republic.
The document is free, available in electronic and paper formats. It is expected to facilitate entry into EU countries.
It is known that a permit to visit EU countries can be obtained by citizens who have been vaccinated with AstraZeneca, Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson, as well as the Chinese Sinopharm. Russian drugs “Sputnik V”, “Sputnik Light”, “EpiVacCorona” and “KoviVac” are not yet included in this list.
