N.J. woman sentenced for supplying race horse ‘blood builder’

Sarah Izhaki, 47, sold dozens of “blood builders” to horse trainers in 2018 and 2019. The drug, which was imported from Mexico, boosts a horse’s red blood cell count, improving endurance and recovery. The prohibited injection, which was usually administered by someone with no veterinary training, also raises the risk of a deadly injury on the racetrack because it pushes the animal beyond its ability.
