The head of the Ukrainian company Naftogaz, Yuriy Vitrenko, said that the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream 2 could allegedly provoke the start of a full-scale war. He spoke about this in an interview with Bloomberg.
According to him, the supply of blue fuel through Ukraine to Europe is still “serving as a deterrent.”
“The worst-case scenario is not only that we will lose most of our GDP from 2024. Worst of all, it means a much higher likelihood of a full-scale war, ”Vitrenko explained.
The head of Naftogaz is confident that the completion of the gas pipeline will mean that “the pro-Russian position is advancing at the expense of the West.” Therefore, as the Ukrainian businessman noted, the refusal of US sanctions against the Russian project could negatively affect pro-Western sentiments in Eastern Europe, in particular in Ukraine.
