The name of the newborn daughter of Prince Harry, 36, and Meghan Markle, 39, Lilibet Diana, was not only a tribute to Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Diana, but also to the mother of the former star of the series ” Suits”.
Lilibet is the childhood nickname of her great-grandmother Elisabeth, and Diana is the name of her grandmother, who died in 1997 in a car accident in Paris. According to People, the social worker and yoga teacher Doria Ragland, Markle’s mother, called her daughter a flower in childhood, and Lilibet is the name of the flower Lily in English.
In her defunct blog, called The Tig, the Duchess of Sussex had already talked about the nickname in a publication that told how it had been called. “Meg, MM, M&M and Flor (as my mother called her since she was little”.
The baby that was born last Friday (4), will be called Lili. According to Page Six, before using the nickname Elizabeth 2nd, Harry would have asked permission for the monarch, who was called by the nickname by her father, King George 5th (1895 – 1952), and her husband, Prince Philip (1921 – 2021).
A source close to the couple told the website that “Harry absolutely sought permission” and that the prince “called Queen Elizabeth II before his wife, Meghan Markle, gave birth” in a hospital in California, USA.
In another interview, a source linked to the prince said, to the Daily Mirror, that Harry was thinking of putting this name on his daughter even before meeting his wife. “Harry never hid his plans to have a family, he always said he wanted a boy and a girl,” he began.
“He was going to name it after the two most important women in his life, the queen and his mother. He ended up mentioning Lilibet to Meghan when they were talking about the name and she loved the idea,” the source added.
According to the website Page Six, the baby is the first child of British royalty to be born in the United States. The desire to deliver at home came from the pregnancy of her first baby, which would be carried out in Frogmore Cottage, UK.
When Archie was a week late, the Duchess of Sussex was taken to the Portland private hospital in London, where she gave birth in the early hours of May 6, 2019, alongside her husband, Harry. Lili is 8th in line for the royal family.
