Russian sailors, together with Syrian servicemen, rescued more than 20 passengers from a boat carrying illegal immigrants from Lebanon that had crashed in the Mediterranean Sea near the Syrian city of Tartus. This was announced on Friday in the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
“The command of the Russian group of forces in the Syrian Arab Republic has decided to assist the Syrian naval forces in conducting a search and rescue operation. The crew of the Kadet anti-sabotage boat rescued a Lebanese citizen in storm conditions and delivered him to the shore. Thanks to the coordinated actions of Russian military sailors and their Syrian colleagues, 22 people were saved, ”the military department said in a statement.
All the victims were taken to hospitals in the city of Tartus.
