The lava of a volcano erupting for the tenth day on the Spanish island of Palma reached the ocean. This was reported by the emergency services of the Canary Islands, noting that contact of lava with salt water can provoke explosions and the release of harmful gases.

According to TASS, referring to the Pais newspaper, local authorities have banned ships from entering the water area at a distance of almost 4 km for security reasons.
Back on Monday, residents of a number of areas of the island (San Borondona, Marina Alta, Marina Baja and La Condesa Palma) were warned about the approach of the lava flow to the ocean. Then the lava was located one and a half kilometers from the coast.
Recall that the volcanic eruption on the Canary island of Palma began on September 19. During this time, according to experts, lava has covered more than 200 hectares of land. About 700 buildings were destroyed, most of which were residential buildings. Several roads have been destroyed. About six thousand residents of Palma have been evacuated, residents of several more coastal areas must remain at home.
