The Solnechny District Court of the Khabarovsk Territory issued a guilty verdict in a criminal case against officials involved in the death of children as a result of a fire in the Kholdomi tent camp, which became known on Friday, September 23.
“The court, taking into account the position of the public prosecutor, imposed a sentence of nine years’ imprisonment with deprivation of the right to hold positions related to the upbringing of minors for a period of three years – to the owner of the camp, eight years with the deprivation of the right to hold positions related to the upbringing of minors for a period of for three years – to the director of the camp and four years with deprivation of the right to hold positions in public authorities for a period of three years – to the head of the ONDiPR in the Solnechny district, ”the prosecutor’s office of the Khabarovsk Territory reported.
They will serve their sentence in a penal colony of general regime.
The fire in the camp, which claimed the lives of four children, occurred on the night of July 23 in a tent camp on the territory of the Kholdomi ski complex. 20 out of 26 tents set up on the territory burned down.
Presumably, the fire broke out due to a malfunction of the heater. After the tragedy, a series of checks began. The Investigative Committee opened criminal cases under the articles “Causing death by negligence”, “Provision of services that do not correspond to the safety of life and health of consumers” and “Negligence”.
The court arrested for two months the director of the tent camp Maxim Kuznetsov, the owner of the organizing company of the tent camp “Kholdomi” Vitaly Burlakov. Also, Eduard Novgorodtsev, the head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, who knew about the violations at the camp site, was detained in this case.
The director of the camp, the owner of the complex, as well as the head of the department for supervisory activities and preventive work for the Solnechny district of the department for supervisory activities of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations for the Khabarovsk Territory were arrested at the end of July. A criminal case was initiated under the articles “Provision of services that do not meet safety requirements” and “Negligence”.
