For former Defense Minister Raul Jungmann, the absence of punishment for active General Eduardo Pazuello for participating in a political act is a sign that President Jair Bolsonaro (no party) is seeking to reduce the command of the military. In an interview with the Café da Manhã podcast, he says that Bolsonaro seeks to “transfer the power of command and decision-making from the Army and its commanders to him”.
“The politicization of the Armed Forces is the shortest way for you to be able to get rid of this Armed Force and get rid of the Constitution”, assesses Jungmann, who headed the Defense portfolio in the Michel Temer (MDB) administration.
The former minister believes that the decision not to punish Pazuello is aimed at weakening the hierarchy and discipline of the Armed Forces — elements that, according to him, must be defended by democratic institutions. Otherwise, he believes that “we could have problems”.
