Novosibirsk Islands, Kotelny, “North Clover”
A delegation from the Public Council under the Russian Ministry of Defense arrived on a working trip to the Arctic. Vorkuta became the first landing point for the cultural and public landing of the Ministry of Defense, headed by the chairman of the council, editor-in-chief of Moskovsky Komsomolets, Pavel Gusev.
The commanders of the military units greeted the guests at the plane’s ladder.
Among the volunteers who arrived there were well-known and recognizable people: Chairman of the Civilian Personnel Trade Union of the Russian Armed Forces Major General Nikolai Boyko, Chairman of the Regional Public Organization of Long-Range Aviation Veterans Lieutenant General Mikhail Oparin, Head of the Directorate of Morning Television Programs of Channel One Arina Sharapova, Chairman of the Buddhists of Moscow Bair Tsympilov , renowned military expert, director of the Center for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies Ruslan Pukhov and many others.
They were accompanied on the trip by Captain 1st Rank Gennady Prokhorov, acting deputy commander of the Northern Fleet.
The members of the delegation met with the leadership of the city, servicemen of military units, learned about the problems of the civilian population, high migration, the decrease in the number of mines, abandoned houses, the high cost of railway tickets, the absence of a highway that would connect Vorkuta with Central Russia.
An honorary citizen of Vorkuta, a resident of besieged Leningrad, Mikhail Leonidovich Tverskoy, handed a letter to the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Sergei Shoigu, in which he asked to make the Vorkuta military airfield a dual-use airfield so that it could receive both military and civilian ships.
The guests were told in detail about the veteran movement, youth soldiers and cadet classes, over which military units patronize.
Pavel Gusev, in turn, stressed that he would personally report on everything said to the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, Sergei Shoigu, and recalled that the Public Council under the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation is not a controlling body, its task is not to search for flaws. Public figures are aimed at social assistance to servicemen and their families. They pay great attention to living conditions, food, uniforms. They do their best to enhance the prestige of military service.
The concert that took place in the Miners’ Palace of Culture became a gift for the Vorkuta residents. The highlight of the program was the performance of the Honored Artist of Russia Nina Shatskaya. She got the warmest applause of the northerners.
The distinguished servicemen were presented with gifts from members of the Public Council. The work of civilian specialists was also noted. Irina Zibert, deputy head of the city administration for housing and communal services, and other residents of Vorkuta received diplomas from the Public Council under the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
Next, the delegation headed for Kotelny Island, which is part of the Novosibirsk Islands archipelago. Here, in the icy desert, there is a military base with the romantic name “North Clover”, which can only be reached by helicopter.
The bright Russian tricolor was clearly visible from above – the military base was painted in these colors. This place, remote from civilization, became the permanent deployment of the tactical group of the Northern Fleet. Its tasks include providing anti-aircraft and coastal defense of the northern borders of our country. This is the first Arctic military base to be built beyond the Arctic Circle. There is a mini-city in the tundra.
The delegation met with servicemen serving in the territory with extremely low temperatures, cut off from the mainland. The guests were personally convinced that all premises of the base were connected by warm passages, got acquainted with the living conditions and service of military personnel. We watched the combat training sessions. We saw a warmed version of a military uniform. We shared lunch with the servicemen.
At the end of the visit, the artists gave a concert for the servicemen.
The working trip of the delegates of the Public Council under the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation will end with a visit to the military units of the Tiksin garrison. The guests will see, among other things, a new military town on the coast of the Laptev Sea, which was built in a block-modular way to combine the air defense forces of the Northern Fleet.
