The Oktyabrsky District Court of Lipetsk passed a verdict on a driver who knocked down a man drunk two years ago, tried to leave the scene, and then hid from the police. This was reported to GOROD48 by the press service of the regional prosecutor’s office.
According to the department, on July 17, 2019, a resident of the Terbunsky district, driving a VAZ-21074, knocked down a man at a pedestrian crossing in Lipetsk and decided to escape from the scene of the accident. In a local driveway, the car was at a dead end, there the driver was caught up by eyewitnesses who called the traffic police.
The driver refused a medical examination, because he did not see the point in it – he was drunk. The pedestrian was hospitalized with a concussion and a displaced left hip fracture. He stayed in the hospital until August 8.
During the investigation, the suspect fled from the police and was on the wanted list for a long time. He was detained only on March 18, 2021. The man agreed with the prosecution and filed a motion for sentencing without trial.
As it turned out, at the time of the accident, he had already been deprived of his driver’s license for drunk driving. Taking into account these circumstances, the court sentenced the man to imprisonment for three years and six months with serving in a colony-settlement. For another three years after that, he will not be able to drive transport.
