Russian tennis player Andrei Rublev, after defeating Rafael Nadal, admitted that it was harder for his opponent, since everyone expects a victory from him. The Spaniard noted that he lost to a great player.
Recall that on Friday, in the quarterfinals of the tournament in Monte Carlo, Rublev defeated Nadal in three sets, which earned him very flattering words from the Spaniard.
“Today I lost to a great player. It cannot be said that I did not play well, it was just that he was better. There is no excuse. Let’s get back to work,” Nadal wrote on Instagram.
Rublev himself noted that it is not easy for Nadal to play on clay, because only victories are expected from him.
“I can’t imagine how difficult it is for Rafa, because everyone expects only victories from him and says that he is the best on clay in history. He has to face tremendous pressure. And it’s hard for me to imagine how he can play in such an environment.” said Rublev.
The Russian noted that his rival in the semifinals, Norwegian Kasper Ruud, will have much more time to recover. At the same time, Rublev expects a tense match, since all their previous meetings were stubborn and their opponents showed great tennis.
