Russia advocates the gradual abandonment of the dollar in mutual settlements with partners, as well as the use of payment systems controlled by the West. This was stated in an interview with the Iranian IRNA agency by the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry Sergei Lavrov.
According to him, these steps will help reduce sanctions risks, as well as potential costs for business. “Moscow’s position on Washington’s sanctions policy will not change,” RIA Novosti quotes Lavrov. “Russia declares on international platforms that such restrictions are inadmissible.”
Lavrov noted that Moscow has been working in this direction for a long time and sees prospects for interaction with foreign partners. Earlier, the minister has already noted the need to abandon the dollar and use alternative currencies. This is the only way to reduce the sanctions risks from the United States, the politician said. Namely, they have become the main instrument of the West in the international arena today, Lavrov emphasized.
The Russian Foreign Minister drew attention to the fact that the EU has already felt the consequences of this approach to diplomacy. European business expresses dissatisfaction with the fact that it is incurring losses, while other countries occupy its niche in the Russian market.
