In one year, ivermectin, a dewormer also used in the treatment of scabies and lice, registered a significant increase in the number of units sold in the country, according to Iqvia, an institute specializing in pharmaceutical retail data. But what draws attention is the billionaire turnover.
Sales of the drug, which advocates of the so-called early treatment encourage, but has no proven efficacy against Covid-19, rose 750% in April 2021 compared to the same month last year, to 84 million units.
The jump in the value reached by retail sales was higher, 1.272%, on the same basis of comparison. The gain rose from R$116.3 million to R$1.6 billion.
