Sberbank and En + Group issued and put on the market I-REC renewable energy certificates, the volume of which will fully cover the electricity consumption within the XXV Sakhalin Oil and Gas Far East Energy Forum. The forum will run from 28 to 30 September 2021.
This is a unique and unprecedented initiative, the green certificates were donated to Sberger by En + Group, a leading vertically integrated aluminum and electricity producer.
As told Alexander Vedyakhin, First Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of Sberbank, “The Sakhalin Region is one of the flagships of ESG transformation in the country. The region was the first in Russia to set the goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2025. And Sberbank, as a driver of such a transformation for its clients and partners, provides the region with comprehensive support. Together with the regional authorities, we are working on the creation of infrastructure for the implementation of climate projects and projects for the circulation of carbon units, which, I am convinced, will become significant not only for our country, but for the whole world. The issuance of green certificates for the Far Eastern Energy Forum is another step towards decarbonization of the regional and entire Russian economy. ”
Anton Butmanov, Director for Sustainable Development of En + Group, for his part, noted that “The issuance of I-REC certificates for Sberbank in order to provide renewable energy to the Far Eastern Energy Forum“ Oil and Gas of Sakhalin – 2021 ”is another confirmation of the commitment of the largest Russian business to ESG principles … Importantly, once CO2 regulations are in place, business efforts to reduce their carbon footprint can be formally verified against international standards. ”
En + Group has been participating in the issuance of I-REC certificates since December 2020 and is currently providing turnkey services in this area. The certificates correspond to the volumes of electrical energy produced by the power plants of the group: EuroSibEnergo JSC (Krasnoyarsk HPP) and Abakanskaya SES LLC (Abakanskaya solar station). They confirm that the purchased electricity is guaranteed to be produced using renewable resources.
