sharper-than-expected increase in job creation in the private sector in May

Job creation in the private sector increased more than expected in May in the United States, in large part thanks to hiring in the leisure and hospitality sector, according to the monthly survey of the services firm. ADP companies released Thursday.

The private sector created 978,000 jobs in May, a surprise to analysts who expected a slowdown from April, and expected 675,000 job creations. However, last month’s figures were revised downwards to 654,000 private jobs against 742,000 initially announced.
