On the days of matches of the European Football Championship in St. Petersburg, the movement of scooters will be limited. The restricted area includes primarily in the area of the stadium on Krestovsky Island and around organized fan zones, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the Vice-Governor of St. Petersburg Boris Piotrovsky.
The decision was made after consultation with kicksharing companies.
– At the stadium on the day of matches in the fans’ zone, we asked not to use scooters, – Piotrovsky noted. – We had consultations with the UEFA EURO 2020 organizing committee on this matter.
The vice-governor also added that he does not link the suspension of the activities of a number of kick-sharing companies with the preparations for the World Cup.
Let us remind you that earlier several services at once, which provided electric scooters for short-term rent, paused work in St. Petersburg. Officially – until the signing of an agreement with the city, which will regulate the issues of ensuring the safety and convenience of all road users, including pedestrians, motorists and users of all types of personal mobility devices.
“We decided to suspend the operation of the service in St. Petersburg in order to settle and agree on all issues related to work in St. Petersburg, including speed limit zones and traffic ban zones, with the city administration,” explained Dmitry Chuiko, founder of Whoosh.
The service works in 17 cities of Russia, the restriction will affect only the Northern capital.
At least two more companies made similar decisions. Their mobile apps are not working right now. For example, the MOLNIA service application is simply minimized immediately after launch. However, both businesses and users hope that the issue of using the “last mile” transport in the Northern capital will be resolved.
