Stress hurting students’ mental health

As NSW students prepare to return to the classroom from next week, one third say study stress is having a major impact on their mental and emotional wellbeing.

This is up 18 per cent since December 2020, according to a survey by youth mental health service Reach Out.

Reach Out CEO Ashley de Silva says it could be due to the switching between at home learning and in school learning.

“It’s understandable, there’s stress at this time of year for most students, but I think those factors coupled with just the ongoing uncertainty of the situation,” Mr de Silva told Sky News Australia.

“And life for a young person beyond restrictions and returning to school, there are some big questions there.”
