Taliban shut down Afghanistan women’s affairs ministry

A sign for the women’s affairs ministry in Afghanistan has been pulled down, fueling fears for women living under Taliban rule.

The ministry is being replaced with a department which once enforced strict religious doctrines.

There are reports female staff have been trying to return to the ministry for several weeks, but have been locked out of the building.

Taliban officials vowed under their new government women will be allowed to study and work under the group’s interpretation of Islamic religious law.
