The High Representative for Security and Foreign Policy in the European Union, Josep Borrell, discussed today, Tuesday, with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, the developments of the negotiations currently underway in Vienna to reach to ensure the full and effective implementation of the agreement signed between the international community and Iran regarding its nuclear activities, and the possibility of the United States returning to it after To withdraw from it unilaterally in 2018.
The two officials met – according to the statement issued from Brussels and reported by the Italian (AKI) agency – on the sidelines of the ministerial meeting of the seven major industrialized countries, which is currently taking place in London.
Borrell also touched on the “deteriorating” relations of the European Union with Russia, especially with regard to the Russian military build-up on the borders with Ukraine, the issue of Russian opposition Alexei Navalny, and the recent sanctions imposed by Moscow on European personalities.
Among the topics discussed during the meeting was the situation in Afghanistan, especially after the United States of America and NATO forces announced their withdrawal from the country.
According to the Italian agency, the two sides expressed their conviction that the European-American summit scheduled for next June in Brussels will be an opportunity to give new impetus to bilateral relations.
