Emir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad did not attend the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) due to the current epidemiological restrictions, which did not allow him to conduct a full-fledged working visit, said the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov.
So the spokesman commented on reports that the Emir of Qatar did not attend the forum, because it was not possible to agree on a personal meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
“You know that certain restrictions continue to operate in various countries of the world, including ours. These restrictions simply did not allow a full-fledged working visit of the head of Qatar to the Russian Federation, ”he said during a briefing on Monday, June 7.
Peskov stressed that as soon as conditions allow, this visit will definitely take place.
Qatar took part in SPIEF 2021 as a guest country. The national pavilion of Qatar was deployed at the forum site, which maximally presented the economic potential of the Middle East country.
The Qatari delegation has become one of the most numerous in the history of its participation in international economic events. Within the framework of the forum, a ceremony of transferring the heritage of the Qatar national pavilion took place.
The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in 2021 was held from 2 to 5 June in a face-to-face format in St. Petersburg.
