This feminicide is the origin of the “Grenelle against domestic violence” created by Marlène Schiappa.
The assassination of Julie Douib has raised awareness among the Corsican population. And even beyond. 3,000 people had marched on L’Île-Rousse to pay tribute to the victim. There were about 900 of them in Vaires-sur-Marne, a commune where she spent her childhood, supported by comedian and actress Muriel Robin. Emotion has even reached the government since this feminicide committed in early March 2019 in L’Île-Rousse, Balagne, is at the origin of the Grenelle against domestic violence created, in the wake, by Marlène Schiappa, then secretary of State in charge of Equality between women and men. More than two years after this tragedy, the Assize Court of Haute-Corse will, from this Thursday, try Bruno Garcia-Cruciani, 45, father of the victim’s two children, accused of having shot dead, with premeditation , his ex-concubine. The death of Julie Douib concentrates all the issues related to the long list of feminicides: control, submission, domestic violence and legal slowness.
