The Russian Embassy in Washington posted on Facebook a message in which it drew the attention of the American side to an unprecedented number of cyber attacks during the recent elections in Russia.
Earlier, the Ministry of Digital Development of the Russian Federation stated that the main target of the hackers was remote voting systems.
The head of the Central Election Commission, Ella Pamfilova, summing up the results of the vote, noted that the attackers greatly complicated the life of the organizers of the elections. “Unprecedented cyberattacks. Both on the site and on all our resources. This is just a disaster. We have never had such a thing,” Pamfilova said.
The attacks were carried out from IP addresses registered in different countries. “We only know the place of registration of the IPs. Fifty percent is the United States,” stressed Maksut Shadayev, head of the Ministry of Finance. The attacks were aimed at identifying possible vulnerabilities and introducing third-party software on the CEC website.
“The purpose of such hacks is to discredit our electoral system. I would like to receive comprehensive explanations from the American side in this regard,” the Russian embassy said.
