Tiger Woods crash: Devastating images show car wreckage after star suffers ‘major injury’ | World | News

Tiger Woods has been rushed to hospital after being involved in a single-vehicle accident in Los Angeles shortly after 7am local time (3pm GMT), police said. Emergency crews found an SUV upside down in a wooded area, located around 30 feet from the main road.

Police used tools to hydraulic pry open the vehicle and extricate the 45-year-old, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.

Woods’ agent has confirmed he has suffered “multiple leg injuries” and is currently undergoing surgery.

Horrific images from the crash site has been broadcast across US networks and shows an SUV rolled on its side, deep into woodland.

The front windscreen of the vehicle appears to the smashed and front bumper of the car crushed.

Piers Morgan shared on image of the crash circulating on ACB on his Twitter feed.

He wrote: “Tiger Wood’s smashed-up car as shown on local LA TV.

“His agent says Tiger is now in surgery after suffering ‘multiple leg injuries’ in a single-car accident.

“Looks like it rolled over off the road and down into a ditch.”

Woods had been travelling alone the suburban communities of Rolling Hills Estates and Rancho Palos Verdes.

In a statement, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD), said: “On February 23, 2021, at approximately 7.12am, LASD responded to a single vehicle roll-over traffic collision on the border of Rolling Hills Estates and Rancho Palos Verdes.

“The vehicle was traveling northbound on Hawthorne Boulevard, at Blackhorse Road, when it crashed. The vehicle sustained major damage.

“The driver and sole occupant was identified as a PGA golfer, Eldrick ‘Tiger’ Woods.

“Mr Woods was extricated from the wreck with the ‘jaws of life’ by Los Angeles County firefighters and paramedics, then transported to a local hospital by ambulance for his injuries.

“The traffic investigation is being conducted by investigators from LASD Lomita Station.”

Woods’ agent, Daniel Rapaport, said: “Tiger Woods was in a single-car accident this morning in California where he suffered multiple leg injuries.

“He is currently in surgery and we thank you for your privacy and support.”

Woods is one of the greatest-ever players to pick up a golf club and has won 15 major titles during his illustrious career.

He also topped golf’s world rankings for a record total of 683 weeks, winning 14 major championship titles between 1997 and 2008.

The backend of Woods’ professional career has been blighted by injuries, but in 2019 he completed one of the greatest sporting comebacks by winning the Masters and his fifth green jacket in 2019.

He is now only three behind the major record of 18 won by Jack Nicklaus.

Well-wishers from around the sporting world have spoken out in support of Woods this evening.

At a press conference, US golfer Justin Thomas said: “I am sick to my stomach. I just hope he’s alright.”

In a post on Twitter, ex-footballer Gary Lineker wrote: “Thoughts are with @TigerWoods. Hope it’s not as serious as appears.”
