On June 10, the Kremlin confirmed the holding of a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US leader Joe Biden at the Villa La Grange in the park of the same name in Geneva. The police have already closed two parks around the villa and set up barricades.
On June 9, Joe Biden announced the country’s determination to play the role of a strong leader in the international arena, as well as the lack of desire for conflict with Russia. He stressed that during the summit he would let Putin know that “America is back.”
In turn, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov pointed out that Moscow has no overestimated expectations or illusions about the upcoming meeting of the Russian and US presidents. According to him, the very fact of the meeting between Putin and Biden is important.
Putin himself noted on June 4 that he did not expect any “breakthroughs” following the results of the Geneva meeting with Biden. At the same time, the head of the Russian state pointed out the existence of coinciding interests that figure in bilateral relations between the United States and the Russian Federation.
On June 9, the first foreign trip of the head of the White House to Europe began since the inauguration of the President of the United States. He opened the tour with a visit to the UK.
The trip to Geneva will be the first foreign visit of the President of the Russian Federation since January 2020.
