Tottenham is close to hiring the Portuguese Paulo Fonseca as their new coach. The agreement must be signed with a three-year contract, according to Sky Sports from Italy.
Also according to Sky Sports, the negotiation is being conducted by Fabio Paratici, who is yet to be announced as the new sporting director of the Spurs. Before Fonseca, the London club even negotiated with Antonio Conte, a former Internazionale, but the talks did not progress.
Besides Roma, Paulo Fonseca also directed Porto-POR and Shakhtar Donetsk-UCR. In the two years he was in the Italian capital, the coach failed to lead the Romans to the Champions League, being fifth in the first season and seventh in the second.
Tottenham fired José Mourinho during the last season and had the former player Ryan Mason in the interim command of the team. The expectation of the board is that the 2021/2022 season will be more competitive than the last, in which the team failed to qualify for the Champions and was eliminated early from the Europa League.
