U.S. Flies Haitian Migrants Home in Bid to Manage Del Rio Border Crisis

DEL RIO, Texas—The Biden administration has begun sending many of the approximately 16,000 migrants who have overwhelmed this small city in recent days to their home country of Haiti, including some who haven’t lived in the impoverished island nation for years.

The first three planes carrying migrants who illegally entered the U.S. landed in Haiti Sunday and two more arrived Monday, according to officials from both nations. U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas said Monday that anyone without a valid claim to stay in the U.S. will face expedited removal.
