UK finds alcohol consumption can lead to dementia

The British charity Alzheimer’s Society has found that alcohol can damage the brain and contribute to the development of a special form of dementia. This, as Trend reports with reference to “Gazeta.Ru”, writes the Express edition.

The experts said that alcohol interferes with the absorption of vitamin B1, which is necessary for the brain to function. “If a patient shows the first signs of a mild cognitive disorder, but he continues to abuse, then Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome may develop,” the experts said.

Experts report that memory impairment is the first sign of alcohol dementia. To fill the gaps in memory, a person begins to invent non-existent memories for himself. Alcohol dementia can also be indicated by the inability to acquire new information and skills, and a change in habitual behavior.
